What's the cooldown delay?

Turning protection off only takes effect after a waiting period. The delay gives the impulse time to pass, so you cannot quit in the heat of the moment, and by the time the wait is over, you often do not want to anymore. It is the level that does the most work for the least commitment.

What that means in practice

  • The wait is the mechanism: cravings are short, and a delay outlasts most of them.
  • Unlike a PIN, it cannot be defeated by knowing your own secret.
  • A good default for people who find a PIN too soft and Nuclear Mode too final.
