# When I block a site, which addresses does that cover?

On Windows, the domain you enter includes that address and its subdomains. youtube.com includes music.youtube.com; vercel.app includes projects hosted under vercel.app. A narrower entry covers only its own branch. A separate domain such as amazon.fr is not a subdomain of amazon.com. DNS protection keeps limited technical exceptions, and an automatic visual layer adds protection in a compatible browser's active window.

## Specifics

- Typing a narrower address blocks less, on purpose: music.youtube.com blocks that address and its own subdomains, and leaves the rest of YouTube alone.
- Shared hosting follows the same rule. Entering vercel.app includes every project under that domain; entering project.vercel.app includes only that project and its own subdomains.
- A small set of essential service addresses, such as those used to sign your computer in, remain protected through technical exceptions. Those exceptions do not limit an entire hosting platform to its exact address.
- The visual layer runs automatically during an applicable blocking session and complements DNS protection. It acts in the active browser window when the address bar can be identified safely; it does not cover every browser or background tab.
- Under a hard lock, your domain rules stay in place until the lock ends. Review the services you need before starting one; the technical exceptions still apply.
- Coverage also depends on how a site or app connects. An app using its own name resolution may bypass system DNS protection, so neither layer is a guarantee against every access method.
